Why We Love Halloween
Halloween may be a spine-chilling and grotesque holiday to many, but WE LOVE HALLOWEEN!
Halloween
According to Britannica, Halloween is a contraction of All Hallows’ Eve, a holiday observed on October 31, the evening before All Saints’ (or All Hallows’) Day. This celebration marks the day before the Western Christian feast of All Saints and initiates the season of Allhallowtide, which lasts three days and concludes with All Souls’ Day.
“Undas”
Growing up, I always look forward to celebrating our local holiday “Undas” or known as All Saints’ and Souls’ Day. This is the time of the year when we get to visit and pray for our departed loved ones and spend quality time with my cousins in the province. This is also the best time for all things scary – stories, tv shows, movies, and the like.
Trick or Treating on Halloween
Halloween is now being embraced in our country and this gives the children a chance to wear cute or spooky costumes in exchange for awesome treats! And ever since I became a mom, a huge part of my creative side has awakened, and what better way to express my creativity than making costumes for my Little One on Halloween!
A First of Many
Our First Halloween party in 2018 was a memorable one. Our little princess dressed up as Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I had a lot of fun recreating the Belle gown made out of yellow plastic trash bags which I’ve created for a colleague for our Halloween Party costume contest back in 2013 when I was still in the corporate world. This time, I get to tweak the Belle ball gown a bit for my daughter, adding a DIY and recycled beaded rose accent and a matching pair of gloves. Our daughter had fun with all the activities in store for her – face painting, picture-taking, and a whole lot of treats-giving!
Halloween in the Happiest Place on Earth
In 2019, we were lucky and blessed to experience Halloween Time in the magical world of Disneyland! We cherished every Halloween vibe we felt, music we heard, and decors, costumes, and parades we saw! Disneyland is indeed the happiest and best place to be during Halloween time!
Virtual Halloween Parties
When the pandemic struck the world, social gatherings and parties were put on a halt, but it did not stop us from having a Halloween party. It’s our second year having Virtual Halloween parties and we do not complain. Last year, we dressed up as a family – the Addams Family. Our daughter was dressed as Wednesday Addams, and boy, we had so much fun wearing our DIY and out-of-the-closet costume in which we nailed perfectly in our own way (LOL). This year, she’s super ecstatic to play the role of a doll from the Netflix series craze, Squid Game. So glad that despite attending these parties virtually, it’s still entertaining as there were still activities and treats for the kids and kids-at-heart.
What’s Not to Love about Halloween?
There are a LOT of reasons to LOVE Halloween!
- For horror movie-lovers like me, this is the BEST time to binge-watch! Not only do you get to choose from a number of readily available lists for Horror and Thriller tv shows, series, or movies, you also get the spooky vibe while watching them (whether alone or with family and friends). Yay!
- For moms like me, Halloween is one of the seasons where you can express your love and service to your children by making or buying and turning their dream costumes into reality!
- For arts, crafts, and DIY-lovers like me, this is a holiday that stirs up one’s creative juices to decorate your home, and as mentioned, create your child’s dream costume, and oftentimes, it permits you to try anything crafty without fear of perfection.
- It’s the time of the year to play dress up – makes it even socially acceptable for adults! And this does not only make your little one happy but it also puts a smile on your inner little child’s face.
- You have a great excuse to chomp on those candies, chocolate, and all sweet treats!
- It’s a season to reconnect with families and friends (virtually, if it may need be) and this creates even more spooky fun-filled memories!
There are so many other things and reasons we love Halloween, but these are the major ones that make me appreciate this holiday so much! I hope for anyone who isn’t a fan, this helps sprinkle a little light on why so many kids (and adults) celebrate and love Halloween!
And for us moms, there are definitely No Tricks, just Treats, and Pure Love!♥
